At its special event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York, Apple has announced major upgrades to nearly all of its desktop and laptop computers. Among them is the upgraded Mac mini, Apple’s small desktop PC. Now with a new ‘Space Grey’ finish, the refreshed Mac mini looks pretty much identical as its predecessor(s), but features much more powerful innards.
Apple’s 2018 Mac mini refresh now features Intel’s eighth-generation (Core-i3) quad-core CPU at the base-line configuration, with hexa-core CPUs also available in higher variants. The company claims that the new system has up to 60-percent better graphics and up to 5 times faster performance than the previous generation. The refreshed mini can also have up to 64GB of RAM on removable SO-DIMMs (Small Outline Dual-inline Memory Modules). As far as the storage is concerned, Apple’s new small PC can go all the way up to 2TB of flash-based storage.
Just like the brand new 2018 MacBook Air, the new Mac mini also comes with Apple’s T2 security chip to facilitate secure logins. Its components are made from 60-percent post-consumer recycled plastic and 100-percent recycled aluminum.
As far as connectivity is concerned, the mini comes with everything from Gigabit Ethernet and Thunderbolt 3 (via USB Type-C) to USB Type-A (x2) and HDMI. Oh, and unlike the new iPhones, the mini still comes with a 3.5mm audio port.

The entry-level configuration of the 2018 Apple Mac mini, which features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage will start at $799, roughly translating to around Rs 59,000. Pre-orders for the PC start today (October 30), with availability commencing from November 7.
