Oppo has launched a variant of the R17 smartphone in Japan with in-display fingerprint reader, called the Oppo R17 Neo. The Chinese company had launched Oppo R17 and R17 Pro smartphones in its home country in August, and recently there was a report suggesting Oppo expected to launch the R17 Neo in China soon.
The Oppo R17 Neo can be seen as a toned-down version of the Oppo R17. It’s the first smartphone in Japan to come with in-display fingerprint reader. Oppo has priced it at JPY 3,218 a month on contract or JPY 38,988 for the unlocked version. The handset will be available in two gradient color options of Mocha Red and Astral Blue.
Oppo R17 Neo: Specifications and features
The Oppo R17 Neo boasts a 6.41-inch AMOLED display with 1080×2340 pixels resolution. It features a waterdrop notch style screen like the R17 along with in-display fingerprint reader. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, and comes coupled with 4GB of RAM. Oppo has generously provided 128GB of storage.
For photography, the Oppo R17 Neo comes equipped with f/1.75 aperture 16-megapixel + f/2.4 aperture 2-megapixel dual rear camera setup. On the front, it features a selfie shooter of 25-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture.

The handset is lighter than the existing Oppo R17. It weighs 156 grams as compared to Oppo R17’s 182 grams, although it packs a slightly larger battery of 3,600mAh, reports GSMArena. The handset body of Oppo R17 Neo measures 158.3×75.5×7.4mm, and it includes all standard regulatory, connectivity sensors with Bluetooth 5.0 and ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.
