Honor held an event yesterday in China where it launched some of its newest products and among those was the new FlyPods and and FlyPods Pro. And some people were surprised to see the new FlyPods because they seemed familiar. People quickly realized that the FlyPods look similar to the Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro which were supposed to launch with the Mate 20 series of smartphones, but didn’t. And now it appears that Huawei which is letting its sub-brand Honor use them as its own products.
The FlyPods look similar to the Apple Airpods in design and connect using Bluetooth 5.0. After pairing with the intended smartphone, subsequent pairing becomes much easier. The user will be greeted with a prompt with FlyPods details and battery status as soon as they flip open the case along with a request to pair. The FlyPods come with touch controls, and while the left earpiece is used to activate the voice assistant the right earbud controls media playback. But both the earbuds can be used to receive and reject calls.
Honor tried to make things convenient by allowing users who lost one of the two FlyPods to get another one and then pair them up to use together. But this must be kept in mind that two FlyPods for the same ear cannot be paired together.
The new Honor FlyPods have a rating of IP54 which means that rain and sweat will not affect them. The FlyPods have a 420mAh battery capacity which according to Honor should last for three hours and up to 20 hours with the charging case. The case comes with a USB Type-C for charging and has wireless charging capabilities as well.
The FlyPods Pro come with a BoneID technology which according to the company is a combination of voice recognition and “bone sound pattern” recognition which the devices uses for biometric recognition. This tech will let users unlock the phone by just asking the FlyPods Pro and even make payments using WeChat payment and AliPay.
The FlyPods Pro comes with YOYO assistant which lets them control the media and calls using voice commands starting with the voice command, “Hello YOYO.”
