BSNL to partner Netflix, Hotstar; offer complimentary subscription to its customers: Report

The state-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is reportedly set to partner with Hotstar and Netflix to bring bundled services for its consumers. The piece of information was shared by BSNL’s CMD, Anupam Shrivastava, in an interview.

Shrivastava while speaking to Gizbot regarding Hotstar and Netflix offers, said, “We are tying up with both and within a fortnight we will announce our partnership with Netflix… We are in discussion with Hotstar also and we will announce that within the next one-half month.”

To note, BSNL already offers Amazon Prime Video membership to consumers, and going by Shrivastava’s interview, it appears that BSNL is pretty confident that they will also get Hotstar and Netflix onboard soon.

Hotstar is India’s home-grown video subscription platform which has made name for itself. On the other hand, Netflix is probably the most-known global video service that already has a partnership with Vodafone and Airtel for bundled offer for postpaid customers.

Meanwhile, BSNL has also announced a partnership with Call2Action Communication India. The telecom operator is planning for a reward points system for subscribers if they allow advertisements via SMS and calls. The service will deliver interactive advertising, IP based calling and free messaging, according to BSNL. The operator will also share revenue from these ads with consumers in form of reward points.

BSNL is said to make this new application available to all BSNL customer and non-BSNL customers through Google Play.
