In addition to new iPads, Apple might also be looking to introduce next generation ‘Pencil’ later today at an event in New York. Apart from new design, it is likely that the second-gen Apple Pencil might incorporate support for gestures, and a new charging method.
According to leaker Benjamin Geskin, Apple Pencil 2018 will come with “even more minimalistic” design, and you’ll not see the silver strip at the top. Apple is said to have re-imaged the Pencil in all ways possible. It will now get attached to the new iPad magnetically, which addresses the concern of misplacing it. Even more there will be new “Tap and Swipe gestures” and a “new charging method”, as per Geskin.
Previously, there were rumors about the Apple Pencil 2 suggesting that Apple is looking for a new pairing method for the accessory which will be much similar to the AirPods’ connection with iPhone. The new charging method is new, and it is believed that Apple will ditch lightening port mechanism for magnetic dock charging.

Coming to new tap and swipe gestures, it is speculated that the new code in upcoming in iOS 12.1 (shared by 9to5Mac‘s Guilherme Rambo over the weekend) release will allow new Apple Pencil for these gestures. Rumor say these gestures in the new iPad Pro will let users do things like change the size or color of a brush within a sketching app using the sides of the Apple Pencil (via Macrumors).

Besides these, there aren’t many details available at this point, and we will have to wait for full details from Apple at today’s event, which is scheduled to kick off at 10:00AM Eastern Time or 7:30PM IST. Apple will be live streaming the event through its official website and on the Events app on Apple TV.
