At the IFA 2018 press conference, Huawei announced Kirin 980, the world’s for 7nm AI mobile chipset. Along with the chipset, Huawei also announced the AI Cube smart speaker, and 8GB RAM, 256GB storage variant of the P20 Pro, along with two colors. And while we were also expecting to see the Mate 20, that did not happen. But Huawei did revealed the launch date.
The Huawei Mate 20-series will be officially unveiled on October 16 at an event in London. It will be the first smartphone to be powered by the Kirin 980 SoC, followed by the Honor Magic 2. The Kirin 980 SoC brings 20 percent performance improvements, and 40 percent improvement in efficiency compared to the 10nm chipset. The CPU with Cotex-A76 cores is 77 percent more powerful and 58 percent efficient compared to the previous generation.

At the October event, Huawei is expected to announce the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. Both are expected to feature Huawei P20 Pro-like triple camera setup. We have already come across the leaked renders, and they show different placement for the triple camera setup on both smartphones.
Both the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are likely to run Android 9 Pie OS out-of-the-box, with EMUI 9 skin on top. Also, they could come with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage option, and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage options. Rest of the details are scarce at the moment, but with the launch date drawing closer, we expect more leaks to pour in.
