Xiaomi Redmi Y2, also known as Redmi S2 in China, was the first smartphone to receive global stable ROM for MIUI 10. The update brought a number of new features to the selfie-centric smartphone and brought MIUI version 10.0.1 to the device. The Redmi Y2 or Redmi S2 is now receiving its very first maintenance update since the roll out of stable version.
The maintenance release for Redmi Y2 is rolling out as MIUI 10.0.4 and it is all about fixing critical bugs observed by users in the initial MIUI 10 release. The change log suggests the most important change is in the form of improvement to the background blur effect for the selfie camera. The update claims that it will further improve the portrait mode feature, which captures images with blurred background.
The update also brings other stability fixes to the camera system of Redmi Y2. In addition, it fixes issues with using the Redmi Y2 as a portable hotspot, especially when users switch to second space. The update also introduces a switch for the sound of deletion and fixes an issue where the screen would not unlock after tapping a notification from the lock screen.
The MIUI 10.0.4.0.OEFMIFH is an OTA only update and will take some days before every Redmi S2/Y2 user gets a notification to download the update. While there is an option to wait for Xiaomi to push the update, if you are impatient and want to try the updated portrait mode then Xiaomi has also released the recovery and fastboot download links.
Before flashing your device with fastboot installation, make sure you backup all of your data and are aware of the process of manual installation of MIUI 10 on your device. The alternate option is to wait for OTA update, which is the easiest method to get latest software on your device.
