Bharti Airtel’s Rs 181 prepaid plan launched with 3GB data per day

Bharti Airtel has introduced another new prepaid recharge plan priced at Rs 181 as it continues to fend off Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea Limited in the competitive telecom segment. The plan while seems to be priced to challenge Rs 198 plan from Reliance Jio and BSNL‘s Rs 187 plan, it actually has very different set of benefits, making it a unique offering.

With Rs 181 prepaid plan, Airtel is offering a total of 42GB data, which is same as the data balance offered with Rs 199 prepaid plan. The only difference being that the Rs 181 plan comes with a validity of just 14 days. Along with data benefits, the plan also offers unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for the entire period of validity. While Vodafone Idea Limited may have become the largest telecom player in the country post merger, Airtel still has a significantly large number of user base and the new plan is aimed to retain existing prepaid users.

Airtel Rs 181 Prepaid Plan: Key Benefits

With its Rs 181 prepaid plan, Airtel is trying to lure customers who have heavy data consumption. The service provider is offering 3GB data per day for a period of 14 days, equating to a total of 42GB data. This is the first time that a telco is offering 3GB data per day for under Rs 200. While Jio offered 3GB data per day for Rs 149, it was a promotional offer available for a limited period.

Airtel is offering this new plan as an open market offer and will be available in select circles. The company seems to be targeting key circles in North India with this plan. The data benefit will be applicable across 2G/3G/4G data and there is unlimited local, STD and national roaming calls without any FUP limit. The plan has a validity of 14 days and customers get 100 SMS free every day.

How Airtel’s Rs 181 prepaid plan stacks up against rivals

While Airtel’s Rs 181 prepaid plan is different from those offered by its rivals, the pricing alone validates comparison. With Rs 198 prepaid plan, Reliance Jio offers 2GB data per day, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for a period of 28 days. BSNL, on the other hand, offers bumper offer prepaid plan priced at Rs 187 where customers get additional 2.2GB data, bringing the total available data to 3.2GB per day. This plan also offers unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day.
