Chip maker and electronics giant Intel has just issued a stern statement defending against the recent claims made by Qualcomm. Intel stated that it respects the intellectual property, but more than that, it respects “truth, candor and fair competition.” The company went all out by calling Qualcomm’s business operation as “unlawful ‘no license, no chips’ regime.” Intel also noted that that the anti-competitive practices by Qualcomm about licensing to have access to its chips have attracted fines worth $975 million in China, $850 million in South Korea, $1.2 billion in Europe, and $773 million in Taiwan. The response also noted that Qualcomm is under investigation in Japan and the United States for the anti-competitive practices.
Steven R Rodgers, the executive vice president and general counsel for Intel went on to add, “For the most part, we have chosen, and will continue to choose, to respond to Qualcomm’s statements in court, not in public.” He went on to refer the lawsuit this week were Qualcomm lost the case that involved 88 patent claims including on about the Intel modem. Rodgers also referred to how Qualcomm “publicly disparaged” the products by Intel asking judges to order the customers not to purchase Intel modems. He added that Intel has been working hard to “push the boundaries of computing and communication technologies” while standing by his engineers and employees.
