With the amount of time we spend staring at computer screens on a daily basis, it’s hardly a surprise that most of us even eat and drink while working on them. As unhealthy as this is for us, it’s also bad for the gadgets. One accidental spill, and that keyboard is gone!
Now, keyboards (whether those used with desktops or the ones that come built into laptops) generally aren’t that expensive to repair/replace, except when we’re talking about Apple. Like all Apple products, the keyboards on the company’s iMacs and MacBooks can cost you a hefty sum of money, in case you spill water (or any other liquid) on them. However, it seems that may soon become a non-issue.
According to a report by Apple World Today, Apple maybe working on water-resistant keyboards for its future desktops and laptops. The information comes courtesy of a patent that the company recently filed (and received) regarding the same.
The report gives some more information about the patent (number 10,082,880), which concerns ‘system level keyboards’. It says that the “keyboard shell could also sport a rear aperture formed into a side wall that may be configured as an antenna, that is tuned to transmit wireless signals at a frequency.”

Now, just being granted a patent doesn’t mean anything. There’s no information about how invested Apple is in this, or if the company is even considering water-resistant keyboards. However, it’s encouraging to see that the Cupertino-based tech major is at least thinking about a solution to a problem that’s far too common.
