Apart from the usual goodies like premium design and better cameras, an important benefit of getting flagship smartphones is assured software support for an extended period. However, even that must stop at some time.
It seems like that time has finally arrived for the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5, Samsung’s flagships from 2015. The two smartphones, which have started receiving the September 2018 security patch, won’t be getting any monthly updates going forward, according to a report by GSMArena. Considering that the S6 edge+ and Note 5 are three years old now, it’s appreciable that Samsung has supported them till now. It’s worth mentioning that the devices will still get patches for any critical vulnerabilities that may surface in future.
As for the September 2018 security patch, it fixes some vulnerabilities in the Android builds. The OTA update will be seeded to newer Samsung flagships in the coming days.
Recently, a rumour claimed that Samsung is planning to launch a smartphone with as many as four cameras later this year. There’s no information about whether this supposed quad-camera smartphone will be launched as part of Samsung’s existing smartphone line-ups, or debut under a new series altogether. If Samsung is indeed planning such a device, there are a few ways those four cameras could be arranged.

The most-obvious could be two cameras each at the front and the back, an arrangement that even some budget smartphones have these days. The alternative could be a single selfie snapper and a tri-camera system at the back, such as the one on Huawei’s P20 Pro.
