Nokia 8 users will get to experience the new camera with Android 9 Pie update ‘shortly’. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, last week replied to a user query thread on Twitter by saying that “we already issued a camera update and you will shortly get another one with Pie with new experiences”
Sarvikas replied to an unhappy Nokia 8 user who felt that HMD Global has neglected its flagship smartphone over Nokia 7 Plus and Sirocco. The user on Twitter asked for facial unlock and camera update like Nokia 7 Plus and Sirocco, to which, Sarvikas said that HMD hasn’t rolled out Facial Unlock as yet to Nokia phones but the company is “still evaluating solutions.”

Back in June, Nokia 8 camera got ‘Pro’ mode update with a lot of new features along with manual controls to white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. But more recently in August, the company introduced a new update to its Nokia Camera app for the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1. Unfortunately, the update wasn’t meant for Nokia 8.
The Nokia Camera 9.0 update was touted to bring enhancements in functionality and user experience for the camera app on the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1. The update also integrated Google Lens directly into the camera UI, which can be used directly through the viewfinder of the camera. Google Motion was also supported by the update, allowing users to shoot short video clips that can be shared as GIFs.
