South Korean electronics giant and smartphone maker LG is finally rolling out the Android Oreo-based updated for its LG G5. The company launched the device back in April of 2016, almost two years back. The interesting thing to note here is that the device launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box which means that Oreo will be the second major operating system upgrade for LG G5 users. One thing to note here is that the update is only limited to the South Korean market at the time of writing according to a report by XDA Developers.
According to the report, a recognized contributor and developer for the XDA forums “autoprime” was the first to report the rollout of the update. The announcement post also linked to what seems to the complete update file for the LG G5 users. The update file amounts to 2.3GB, but it is likely that this file is aimed at the devices that were sold in the South Korean market with market specific hardware or firmware changes. To give some perspective, the company launched the device back in June 2016 in the Indian market.

It may not seem surprising for some users that may own a Google Pixel or Nexus branded device or probably a OnePlus device and are habitual to regular software updates. But it is significant because there are very few companies that are known to offer major operating system upgrades for devices older than two years.
LG G5 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The device features a 5.3-inch QHD display and also came with a modular design.
