As expected, Realme has launched its second smartphone in India today, called the Realme 2. Compared to its predecessor the Realme 1, the new Realme 2 brings some important upgrades that were missing from the first smartphone.
And with the intense competition between affordable smartphones, the Realme 2 will be competing with the likes of Honor 7A, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. We pitted all four devices based on their price, specifications and features, and here’s how they compete.
Price in India and availability
Unlike the Realme 1 that was an Amazon India exclusive, the Realme 2 will be available to purchase from Flipkart. The smartphone will be offered in two variants – a 3GB RAM with 32GB storage variant priced at Rs 8,990, and 4GB RAM with 64GB variant priced at Rs 10,990. It will go on sale starting September 4 at 12:00PM. The Honor 7A, is also available via Flipkart and is priced at Rs 8,999.
The Redmi Note 5 from Xiaomi is also available to purchase from Flipkart, Mi Home stores and Mi.com/in. It is offered in two variants – the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage one priced at Rs 9,999, whereas the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage priced at Rs 11,999. Lastly, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 from Asus is priced at Rs 10,999 for 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, and Rs 12,999 for 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. There is also a third variant with 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, and a slightly higher resolution 16-megapixel camera for Rs 14,999.

Display
The Realme 2 comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio, the Honor 7A comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Redmi Note 5 come with a 5.99-inch full HD+ display and 18:9 aspect ratio.
Specifications
The Realme 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core SoC built on 14nm process, whereas the Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC built on the 14nm process. The Honor 7A has a slightly less powerful Snapdragon 430 SoC octa-core SoC, whereas the Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with the Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC.
Cameras
Both, the Realme 2 and Honor 7A come with the same dual rear camera setup – one is a 13-megapixel primary sensor, and the second is a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Up front, both smartphones come with an 8-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calling, and also supports AI-based portrait mode.
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 also comes with dual rear camera setup comprising of a 13-megapixel primary sensor backed with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. Up front, the smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor. The Redmi Note 5, on the other hand, comes with a single 12-megapixel sensor at the back, and a 5-megapixel sensor on the front.
Battery and connectivity
The Realme 2 comes with a higher capacity 4,230mAh battery, the Redmi Note 5 has a slightly smaller 4,000mAh battery, whereas the Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with the higher capacity battery rated at 5,000mAh. The Honor 7A, on the other hand, comes with the smallest battery of the lot, rated at 3,000mAh. In terms of connectivity, all smartphones come with dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth, and microUSB connectivity.
OS and security
In the software department, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Realme 2 come with Android 8.1 Oreo OS, the Honor 7A comes with Android 8.0 Oreo, whereas the Redmi Note 5 comes with Android 7.1.2 Nougat, which is upgradable to Android Oreo.
The Realme 2, Honor 7A and Redmi Note 5 come with their respective custom skins on top, whereas the Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with Stock Android OS. For security, all four smartphones come with a fingerprint scanner, and face unlock feature.
