IFA 2018: Lenovo Yoga C630, the world’s first Snapdragon 850 Windows convertible launched

Lenovo’s top three products at IFA 2018 are ThinkPad X1 Extreme, Yoga C930 and Yoga Book C930 but it also has a world exclusive in the form of the Yoga C630. The new Yoga C630 being introduced at IFA 2018 is a Windows on Snapdragon device that uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 850. This is the first device to use Qualcomm’s newest mobile platform for Windows and Lenovo says it will be exclusive to the company for some time.

Qualcomm and Microsoft announced a partnership to spread the reach of Windows on Snapdragon at Snapdragon Summit in December last year. The first batch of devices were powered by Qualcomm flagship processor from last year, the Snapdragon 835. Now, the San Diego-based chipmaker is adding more life to this new device category with the Snapdragon 850. There is little information about Snapdragon 850 at the time of writing but it is expected to be similar to Snapdragon 845 found on premium smartphones like the OnePlus 6 and Galaxy Note 9 and might have slightly higher clock frequency.

With Lenovo Yoga C630 and Snapdragon 850 mobile platform, Qualcomm is promising 30 percent improvement in performance. It is also promising constant connectivity with integrated 4.5G LTE Advanced Pro. The laptop also promises up to 25+ hours of battery life or two full days of productivity and work use.

The Yoga C630 is designed just like any other Yoga model and can be switched from laptop to tablet to stand and tent mode. It has an integrated fingerprint sensor and optional stylus for Windows Inking feature.

Lenovo says that the Yoga C630 runs Windows 10 in S mode and supports emulation that basically renders the full Windows program on a Snapdragon platform. If you use your laptop basically to do things like browsing the Web, emails and office communication then the Yoga C630 should work well. However, you will be stuck with Microsoft Edge and won’t get access to Google Chrome.

The Lenovo Yoga C630 will be available starting September at a retail price of €999 (around Rs 82,000). Considering that India has not seen a lot of Windows on Snapdragon product launches, it is highly unlikely that Lenovo will bring this one to India.
