IFA 2018: Sony announces WH-1000XM3 wireless headphones, 4K OLED Bravia TVs, Cybershot DSC-HX99 and more

The annual trade show Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) 2018 in Berlin is on and major names from the technology and consumer electronics industries are launching their latest lineup of products. Japanese electronics giant Sony was also present at IFA 2018 and announced a number of new products across its product portfolio. According to the announcement, the company revealed products ranging from Home Entertainment & Sound segment to new cameras, robotics and watches. The President and CEO of Sony Corporation issued a statement emphasizing that the company “will enhance both creator and user engagement to get closer to people”.

Yoshida continued, “Our electronics products play the vital role of connecting creators that produce stunning audio and visual contents with users who enjoy them. In addition to capturing ‘Reality’ through the pursuit of high-fidelity audio and high-definition video technologies, going forward, I believe it is equally important for Sony to also deliver ‘Real-time’ value.” In addition to these statements, Ichiro Takagi, Senior Executive Vice President and head of the Home Entertainment and Sound Business in the company added, “Through the best images and sound possible, we want to fully convey the creator’s intent, and provide the ultimate audiovisual experience to users.”

Sony audio products

The company introduced new products in its audio lineup including its wireless noise-canceling headphones as part of its 1000X series, the WH-1000XM3. The company claimed that these new headphones sport “newly-developed HD Noise Canceling Processor QN1”. The processor is expected to provide “approximately four times” improved performance. The company pointed out that QN1 can stop low-range noise from airplanes to mid and high-range noise including street or human voices. Sony has added a high-quality internal amp along with the headphones. These headphones are priced at approximately €£330 and €389 in Ireland and will be available from the beginning of September.

It also revealed WF-SP900, its “truly wireless” sports headphones with dust and water-proof built quality. WF-SP900 come with internal storage allowing users to store music in the headphones so that users can play music even if they don’t have access to their smartphone for Bluetooth playback. The SP900 is priced at £250 and will start shipping from November end.

The company also launched its DMP-Z1 digital music player along with IER-Z1R in-ear stereo headphone. The music player is claimed to use a “high-output analog amplifier” along with independent power system. IER-Z1R will be priced at approximately £2,000 and DMP-Z1 will be priced at approximately £8,000.

The last two audio products include its in-ear stage monitor headphones, the IER-M9, and IER-M7. Sony has not revealed the pricing of these products a

Sony Bravia Master Series

Sony announced its latest Bravia Master Series for Europe and TVs will go on sale from September. As part of the lineup, the company launched the AF9 lineup and the ZF9 lineup. The difference here is that the AF9 series comes with 4K HDR OLED panels and Pixel Contrast Booster, and Acoustic Surface Audio+ and the ZF9 line comes with 4K LCD panel along with Picture Processor X1.

The 75-inch ZF9 is priced at £4999, 65-inch ZF9 is priced at £3799, the 65-inch AF9 is priced at £3999, and the 55-inch AF9 is priced at £2999. All these TVs are currently available for pre-order in the UK.

Sony Cybershot products and Watches

The company announced two of the latest models from its popular Cyber-shot series, the DSC-HX99 and the DSC-HX95. Both these products will go on sale starting October and pack ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T 24-720mm lens. Sony has also added support for 4K video recording along with eye AF focus, RAW format output, touch-to-focus or click images. and more. Sony announced that both the cameras will start shipping in Europe starting from October 2018. The HX99 is priced at £450 and HX95 is priced at £430.

It also announced the launch of its first fashion watch, the FES Watch U that makes use of e-paper technology. According to the announcement FES Watch U will be available from mid-September in select countries including UK, Italy, France, Germany, and Spain. The watch is available in silver and black colors and interested buyers can get at for £529.

Robotics and AI

Sony also showcased its robot dog Aibo at the convention making it the first time in Europe. The company initially launched Aibo back in January 2018. The company revealed that Aibo is set to launch in the United States in September.
