Honor’s FlyPods are Apple AirPods clones launched in China
Honor held an event yesterday in China where it launched some of its newest products and among those was the new FlyPods and and FlyPods Pro. And some people were surprised to see the new FlyPods because they seemed familiar. People quickly realized that the FlyPods look similar to the Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro which were supposed to launch with the Mate 20 series of smartphones, but didn’t. And now it appears that Huawei which is letting its sub-brand Honor use them as its own products.
The FlyPods look similar to the Apple Airpods in design and connect using Bluetooth 5.0. After pairing with the intended smartphone, subsequent pairing becomes much easier. The user will be greeted with a prompt with FlyPods details and battery status as soon as they flip open the case along with a request to pair. The FlyPods come with touch controls, and while the left earpiece is used to activate the voice assistant the right earbud controls media playback. But both the earbuds can be used to receive and reject calls.
Honor tried to make things convenient by allowing users who lost one of the two FlyPods to get another one and then pair them up to use together. But this must be kept in mind that two FlyPods for the same ear cannot be paired together.
The new Honor FlyPods have a rating of IP54 which means that rain and sweat will not affect them. The FlyPods have a 420mAh battery capacity which according to Honor should last for three hours and up to 20 hours with the charging case. The case comes with a USB Type-C for charging and has wireless charging capabilities as well.
The FlyPods Pro come with a BoneID technology which according to the company is a combination of voice recognition and “bone sound pattern” recognition which the devices uses for biometric recognition. This tech will let users unlock the phone by just asking the FlyPods Pro and even make payments using WeChat payment and AliPay.
The FlyPods Pro comes with YOYO assistant which lets them control the media and calls using voice commands starting with the voice command, “Hello YOYO.”
WATCH: Honor 9N Vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro
The Honor FlyPods are priced at RMB 799 (Rs 8,470 approximately), and comes in Robin Blue and Lily of the Valley White colors. While the FlyPods Pro is priced at RMB 999 (Rs 10,590 approximately), and comes in Lily of the Valley White and Charm Red colors. The Honor FlyPods will go on sale in China on November 6.

WhatsApp beta for Android brings private reply feature and a major bug
WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update for its beta users on Android which enables the “Private Reply” feature. While the name sounds like a major new feature, it does not seem like a big deal in real life. The feature is a basic messaging feature that has been there on old-school instant messaging services.
The new Private Reply feature allows users to send a private message from within a group message. For example, if you are in a group chat and want to privately reply to a particular message which only the sender of the message can see and not everyone in the group then this feature becomes really useful. Previously, you had to take a screenshot or remind the sender about the message.
Now, you can select a particular message within WhatsApp group and tap on three dots at the top right corner to see the reply privately option. Tapping on reply privately, opens the message in the chat window of the sender. The feature works similar to Reply messages but is enabled within the group chat option to privately answer to sender of a message.
How to use WhatsApp’s Private Reply Feature
Step 1: Select the message of the sender to which you would want to reply privately. Then tap on the three dots on the top right corner. This will reveal the reply privately option.
Step 2: Selecting reply privately will open the highlighted message in the form of a reply thread in the chat window of the sender. This allows for a seamless transition between group messaging and private individual chats. However, WhatsApp users should not confuse this feature for incognito mode available on other messaging services.
Watch: How Jio Home IoT Solutions Will Work
WhatsApp’s private reply feature is only available with version 2.18.335 being seeded to beta testers on Android. According to WABetaInfo, the update brings a minor new feature but also has a major bug. It claims WhatsApp crashes whenever users on this version delete a particular media message from a group. This issue should be resolved with the next beta update.

Google Maps ties up with Aamir Khan-starrer Thugs of Hindostan
In the build-up to the launch of the new movie Thugs of Hindostan starring Aamir Khan, Google Maps has enabled a new function that will allow users to switch the navigation icon to Aamir Khan’s character from the movie. The movie is set to be released on November 8, and this latest bit of marketing through Google Maps will help in pre-release promotion for the new movie. The new feature will be available on both the iOS and Android apps of Google Maps.
In order to activate the Thugs of Hindostan experience on Google Maps, users will first have to update to the latest version of the app through the App Store or Google Play Store. Once this is done, users can search for their destination and begin navigation. You can then see a prompt at the bottom to enable the experience, signified by an icon of Aamir Khan’s character ‘Firangi’ from the movie. Once activated, users will get voice prompts for navigation in Aamir Khan’s voice, as well as see the navigation icon changed to the Firangi character – an eccentrically-dressed man sitting on a mule.
“We are truly excited to bring a first-time India-specific entertainment experience to Google Maps in India. As people gear up for Diwali and to watch Thugs of Hindostan, we wanted to do our bit by making their driving journeys more fun and playful. Huge thanks to Tanuja Khetwal, Manan Mehta and the entire YRF team for helping make this possible, and we wish the movie every success,” said Neha Waikar, Product Manager, Google Maps.
WATCH: Google Pixel 3 XL Hands On
We tried the process, and found it to be functional on both iOS and Android. Of course, users also have the option to switch off the Firangi icon and go back to the default navigation icon and voice prompts if they choose. The implementation is through a custom vehicle on Google Maps, which replaces the classic blue pointer icon. Furthermore, the feature only works when you choose vehicular navigation – directions for either a car or motorbike – while walking and public transport-based directions do not implement the feature.

BSNL, MTNL 4G services might get delayed until next year: Report
BSNL and MTNL have been wanting to acquire the 4G spectrum for quite some time, but unfortunately finance ministry is likely to delay the Department of Telecom’s (DoT) proposal of Rs 13,000 crore worth 4G spectrum to the state-run telecom operators.
Both BSNL and MTNL were expected to receive the 4G spectrum by the end of 2018, and now according to IE, sources in the ministry said that the operators would have to wait until next year for rolling out 4G services. “Writing it as expenditure at this period of time seems very difficult. The (finance) ministry is weighing other macroeconomic factors and this is expected to take more time than anticipated earlier. I do not see it in any time soon” the report quoted sources in the ministry.
To recall, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha in September said that they are trying to allocate 4G spectrum to BSNL and MTNL by “end of this year” and “it should not be 2019 but in 2018”.
Recently there was a report suggesting that Department of Expenditure was looking at the pros and cons of the DoT’s proposal, since it will additionally burden the government’s fiscal by Rs 13,000 crore. The costing has been declared ‘incipient sick’ by the Department of Public Enterprise, and these expenditures will be reportedly examined before approval.
As per proposal, MTNL plans to roll out 4G services with the help of a Rs 6,292 crore capital, while BSNL requires Rs 6,652 crore as equity infusion to fund its spectrum.

Jio offers best 4G coverage, but Airtel tops 4G download speed and experience: OpenSignal
OpenSignal, which maps for all major networks around the world, has complied a report of ‘Mobile Network Experience’ in India. The detailed analysis by OpenSignal reveals that Airtel is providing the best 4G download speed experience in India, while Reliance Jio has overall better 4G network availability and lowest latency.
The survey mapped 17.6 lakh (1.76 million) unique devices over a period of three months (June 1 to August 29) across India. According to OpenSignal, there was a three-way tie in mobile video experience between Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone. Airtel though was way ahead in 4G download speeds with average 9.96 Mbps. Not just that, Airtel also improved in ‘Download Speed Experience’ in the past six months to reach 7.5 Mbps in overall 3G and 4G connections, which is 25 percent growth.
In terms of 4G availability, Reliance Jio beats everyone in 22 telecom circles in India and has the lowest latency experience as well. Jio scored 96.7 percent in 4G availability across all 22 circles, while it topped 97 percent in 10 circles including the Kolkata.
Delhi saw the second best latency experience score in India, and Jio topped with an average of 56.7ms. However, Vodafone’s score of 81.6 percent was the highest in terms 4G availability in Delhi.
Upload speeds are typically slower and surprisingly Idea Cellular topped 3G upload and 4G upload speed with average scores 15 percent faster than Vodafone – which was the second best. Idea was 2.88Mbps followed by Vodafone with 2.31Mbps. Both Idea and Vodafone are now one company after merger, but since the sample survey started in June, OpenSignal treated them as separate operators in this report.

Honor Watch Magic with Huawei’s LiteOS, NFC, heart-rate sensor launched: Price, features
Following its parent company Huawei, Honor has also announced a smartwatch – Honor Watch Magic – in China which is less fancier, cheaper, and is essentially a toned-down version of the Huawei Watch GT. The Honor Watch Magic will retail at a starting price of RMB 899 (approximately Rs 9,000), which is RMB 400 less than Huawei’s smartwatch.
The Honor Watch Magic comes in two variants – a Lava Red color variant with silicone strap for RMB 899 (approximately Rs 9,000), and a Moonlight Silver variant with leather strap at RMB 999 (approximately Rs 10,000). At present, Honor is only selling the Watch Magic in China through Vmall, JD.com. Tmall, and Suning. It is globally expected to launch the smartwatch in January, 2019.
In terms of design, Honor Watch Magic looks similar to Huawei’s Watch GT. It features a slightly smaller 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a 390×390 resolution instead of 1.39-inch AMOLED seen on the Watch GT. The dial is made of stainless steel frame, and users will have option of choosing from multiple watch faces.
The Honor Watch Magic is thinner too. The dial body thickness is just 9.8mm, where as the Watch GT was 10.6mm. You have option of silicone or leather bands. These are 22mm bands, which are easily swappable. The watch is also water-proof up to 50 metres (5 ATM).
The smartwatch is based on Huawei‘s proprietary LiteOS platform. It uses a dual-chip technology – one high-performance chip, and an energy efficient chip. In terms of features, the Honor Watch Magic gets fitness tracking sensors, a heart-rate monitor, built-in GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and NFC. As of now in China, the Watch Magic supports Huawei Pay, AliPay and bus cards with NFC payement.
It can track activities such as walking, running, cycling, swimming, mountaineering, and more. Honor says that it also has a built-in coach for workout sessions. The Watch Magic also has TruSleep 2.0 which can monitor your sleep data of eight different patterns along with six types of sleep disorders. It will also provide up to 200 types of sleep suggestions. Furthermore, it can provide 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and can give real-time feedback/suggestions, claims Honor.
Lastly, it also gets a smaller battery than Huawei Watch GT. The battery is 178mAh, which much smaller in comparison to 420mAh, although Honor claims it to be sufficient for a week’s time.

FlexPai is the world’s first foldable smartphone with Qualcomm’s unannounced 7nm chipset
Samsung has been defeated by a little known company called Rouyu Technology to launch the world’s first foldable smartphone. Called FlexPai, it is basically a tablet when unfolded and boasts a massive 7.8-inch display. When folded, it shrinks down to a usable screen space of 4-inches.
Rouyu Technology has achieved such a design by using an AMOLED display that can fold down the middle. The smartphone also runs a custom version of Android, called Water OS, and it has been designed to switch to using only half of the screen when folded. The other half of the display will show a wallpaper when it is folded and used as a smartphone. Among other tweaks, FlexPai lets its users choose which half they wish to use and the split between two screen is not equal.
This is the “world’s first foldable screen phone” released by Rouyu Technology, which will use the Snapdragon 8150 processor, but its design is very rough, just to seize the “first”, this is a futures product. pic.twitter.com/M0v9o2z0Bw

One side has a slightly bigger screen than the other, which is next to the dual camera setup. Talking about dual cameras, there is a combination of 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors mounted on the side of the display, which can be used for selfies and video calling. The secondary 20-megapixel camera acts as a telephoto lens.
Among its claim to fame, the FlexPai is dubbed as the first smartphone with 7nm chipset from Qualcomm. The San Diego-based chipmaker is yet to announce its first chipset fabricated using 7nm processor and only Snapdragon 8150 fits that billing. The base configuration has 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage but there are options for 8GB RAM and 128GB or 512GB storage.
The FlexPai measures 7.6mm thick and when folded, it becomes a 15.2mm thick piece of electronics, ruling out the option of putting it in your pocket. The thickness can be attributed to the hinge design which seems like that of a conveyor belt. Rouyu Technology says the hinge is rated to being folded over 200,000 times.

The smartphone prices start at RMB 9,000 (around Rs 95,000), which puts it in the same ballpark as that of iPhone XS. Samsung is also working on a foldable smartphone codenamed Winner, which is expected to be unveiled early next year.

Oppo F9 Pro 128GB variant launched in India: Price, specifications and features
Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is now reportedly offering a 128GB storage option of the F9 Pro, which was launched in August this year. At the time of launch, the phone came with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom suggests that there is now stock of the 128GB variant of the phone as well. According to a tweet by the retailer, the 128GB version will sell for Rs 25,990, up from the Rs 23,990 price tag for the 64GB variant.
The Oppo F9 Pro is itself the higher variant as compared to the Rs 19,990 Oppo F9, which sports 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 16-megapixel front camera, and no VOOC fast charging. Although Oppo does sell its smartphones online, the bulk of the brand’s success in India is credited to its superior offline dealer network. Most Oppo phones are sold offline, where customers are able to try out the devices before buying. For that reason, it would make sense that stocks of the 128GB variant are already with offline retailers like Mahesh Telecom.

Honor Magic 2 with 6 cameras, Kirin 980 SoC and slider mechanism launched: Price, specifications
Honor Magic 2 is the latest smartphone from Huawei’s e-brand, combining the design of Huawei P20 Pro with a slider mechanism. The smartphone was launched in China, and it is now officially the first smartphone with a total of six cameras, three on the front and three on the back.
With the launch of Magic 2, Honor joins Xiaomi which was the first to launch a smartphone with manual slider design, when it introduced the Mi MIX 3, early this week. The slider design can be seen as a workaround for the mechanical sliding components we saw on the Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X. The smartphone industry is split between mechanical components and sliders and both Honor and Xiaomi seem to prefer the later. Even Lenovo is expected to follow them with the launch of Z5 Pro later today.
Honor Magic 2: Price and Availability
The Honor Magic 2 comes in three different storage options, and is currently available for preorders in China. The smartphone is scheduled to begin shipping to consumers starting November 6. The base model comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and is priced at RMB 3,799 (around Rs 40,300). There is also an 8GB RAM variant with option for 128GB or 256GB storage priced at RMB 4,299 (around Rs 45,600) and RMB 4,799 (around Rs 50,900) respectively.
Honor Magic 2: Specifications and Features
Honor Magic 2 borrows its design cues from that of Huawei P20 Pro, but has features that were introduced with the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro last month. It sports a 6.4-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2280×1080 pixels translating to an aspect ratio of 19:9. This is among the few devices to have an edge-to-edge display design without a notch.
Under the hood is Huawei’s Kirin 980 SoC, fabricated using the 7nm process. There is 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage but Honor has skipped microSD card slot. In terms of imaging, there is a combination of 16-megapixel wide-angle, 24-megapixel monochrome and a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle sensors on the back of the device.
Watch: OnePlus 6T Hands-On
For selfies, there is a combination of 16-megapixel camera with two 2-megapixel depth sensors. This selfie shooter setup combined with IR face scanner for 3D face unlock is embedded within the slider mechanism. While it supports Face Unlock, the company has also added an in-display fingerprint sensor. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, dual-band GPS, 4G LTE and USB Type-C port.
The Honor Magic 2 runs EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie, and comes with its virtual assistant called Yoyo. It is backed by a 3,400mAh battery, and uses the same 40W super charging technology that was announced last month. Honor says the Magic 2 can reach 50 percent of charge in just 15 minutes. It will be available in blue, red or black gradient finish starting November 6.

WhatsApp ads coming to the ‘Status’ section, exec confirms the inevitable
WhatsApp Wednesday said it will display advertisements in its ‘Status’ section to monetise the popular messaging platform that has about 1.5 billion users globally.
“…around monetisation plans for WhatsApp, we already announced that we are going to be putting ads in ‘Status’. So that is going to be a primary monetisation mode for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp,” WhatsApp Vice President Chris Daniels said here.
He, however, did not provide a time frame for the rollout of this feature.
According to reports, the Facebook-owned company will shortly allow advertisers to display ads in its Status section. The ‘Status’ option allows users to share text, photos and short videos as their status, which disappear after 24 hours.
Facebook had acquired WhatsApp for USD 19 billion. The messaging platform, which competes with the likes of WeChat, Viber, Line and Hike, has over 250 million in India — a key market where it is battling concerns over fake messages on its platform.
Daniels is currently in India and met IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Wednesday in the backdrop of India’s demand for traceability of sinister messages that have incited incidents of violence.
After the meeting, Prasad said India is not seeking decryption of WhatsApp messages and its demand for traceability pertain to location and identity of those misusing the platform to spread fake news that provokes violence.
Prasad also asserted that the “institutional integrity” of the platform be maintained ahead of elections.

WhatsApp to appoint India head by year-end
Under pressure to curb sinister and fake messages, WhatsApp said Wednesday it will appoint head of India operations by the year-end.
“Our new Head of WhatsApp India, who will be named by the end of the year, will build a local team that can serve our customers in India as well as work with partners and government leaders to help keep people safe,” WhatsApp spokesperson said in an email statement.
WhatsApp Vice President Chris Daniels on Wednesday met IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to discuss the issue of fake messages, that have in the past triggered mob killings.
“We appreciate the opportunity to meet with government leaders, including Minister Prasad who confirmed his support for encryption and the privacy of our users,” the spokesperson said.
WhatsApp is “deeply committed” to serving the people of India and working closely with civil society and government leaders to help address abuse on the platform, the spokesperson added.
The government has stood firm in its stance on traceability, and made it clear that it is not seeking decryption of messages on WhatsApp but rather wants the location and identification of senders of misinformation that provokes violence and heinous offences.
Also while the platform has appointed a grievance officer for India, the government has asked that the officer be stationed in India.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo reportedly getting AR Emoji support with new update
Among the laundry list of features that Samsung’s 2018 top-tier smartphones are packed with, an interesting one is AR Emoji. As its name suggests, the feature uses Augmented Reality to map users’ facial expressions and create an animated emoji, which can then be shared with other users. The feature, which was originally limited to Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, and Galaxy Note 9, recently made its way to the flagships’ respective predecessors as well. However, it seems that Samsung doesn’t want to keep animated emojis limited to just its flagship smartphones.
According to a SamMobile report, Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo is getting a new OTA update that brings AR Emoji to the lower mid-range smartphone. That said, these AR Emoji are quite basic and don’t work in real-time like they do on Samsung’s flagships. If the Galaxy J7 Duo is indeed getting AR Emoji support, it’s quite likely that Samsung will eventually bring the feature to its other mid-range smartphones as well.
The report further mentions that the update also includes Android security patch for the month of November 2018. Interestingly, this makes the Galaxy J7 Duo the second Samsung smartphone to receive an Android security patch ahead of schedule, after the Galaxy J7 Prime started receiving it earlier this month.
Bearing firmware identifier J720FDDU3ARJ3, the update weighs around 480MB in size. However, as is always the case with over the air updates, it may take a while to reach all Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo units out in the wild duo to the staggered rollout. In case you have the smartphone and want to manually check if the update is available, you can do so by heading over to the ‘Software Update’ section in the smartphone’s settings.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has earned Rockstar games almost $1 billion in the first weekend
The newest game from Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 was the most anticipated game of the year, and not for nothing. The release of Red Dead Redemption 2 took the gaming world by storm and has apparently made $725 million in three days of release, and that is a massive achievement for any game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was first teased almost two years ago when Rockstar Games put out the first poster of the game and people have been hyped since. The first iteration of the game was a massive success for Rockstar Games and people all over lauded it for the accurate and detailed portrayal of its setting of the American wild west.
The game is priced is $60 which makes it one of the costlier AAA games in the market right now. But the present revenue earned by the company shows that people didn’t care about the pricing and were too excited to try it. The game has constantly received the top ratings from almost all publications that have reviewed it.
The only game from Rockstar Games to earn a higher opening weekend was the Grand Theft Auto V which was back in the year 2013 which amassed over $1 billion within the first three days of its release.
Red Dead Redemption 2 set the record for the highest-selling game on Sony’s PlayStation Network on PlayStation 4 despite being available on Xbox One.
