Android distribution numbers for August 2018: Android Oreo adoption up 2.5%, Android 9 Pie absent

Google has published Android distribution numbers for the August month. As always, newer versions of Android share has increased mostly, although Android 9 Pie is not part of the list. The company announced Android 9 Pie last month in the second week, and currently it is on Google Pixel phones and Essential Phone. The total number must be less than 0.1 percent of the total Android market, hence it didn’t make it to the list.

Coming to Android 8.0 and 8.1 Oreo, the share has gone up to 14.6 percent of Android devices, which is up from 12.1 percent from July’s Android distribution numbers. In comparison with May distribution numbers, Android 8.0 Oreo registered 5.2 percent jump to 10.1 percent, while Android 8.1 Oreo continues remained at two percent install base.

As yet, it seems Android 7.0 Nougat still powers most of the Android smartphones in the market as their combined share is 30.8 percent. The Android 7.0 Nougat is still on 10.5 percent devices, while Android 7.1 Nougat share is almost double at 20.3 percent.

Other than that, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the most found OS on Android smartphones with 22.7 percent after Nougat. The share has come down from July’s 23.5 percent. The Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop still have active devices with 19.2 percent followed by Android 4.4 KitKat at 8.6 percent.
