Google made a secret deal with Mastercard to check on your offline store shopping: Report
Google reportedly made a secret partnership with Mastercard in the U.S. to check whether its ads converted to a sale at a physical store or not. It paid Mastercard millions of dollars for the deal to access almost two billion Mastercard card-holders’ data. Citing unidentified people with knowledge of the deal, Bloomberg notes that select Google advertisers in the past year have had access to a tool that tracks whether whatever ads they ran online led to a sale at a physical store in the U.S.
The deal raises privacy concerns about how much consumer data is being taken without consent. Essentially, it gave Google an unprecedented asset for measuring retail spending, said report. The business partnership reportedly took about four years of negotiations, but Google never announced it publicly. There were apparently four people with knowledge of the deal and out of them three worked directly on it. It is also suggested that Google discussed sharing a portion of the ad revenue with the companies, however, a Google spokeswoman declined the reports of revenue sharing agreement with its partners.
Addressing the ads tool, the Google spokeswoman in a statement told Bloomberg, “Before we launched this beta product last year, we built a new, double-blind encryption technology that prevents both Google and our partners from viewing our respective users’ personally identifiable information.”
“We do not have access to any personal information from our partners’ credit and debit cards, nor do we share any personal information with our partners,” added the statement. While these reports need an explanation from Google and even further investigation from government agencies, one thing quite clear is that data privacy in this digital age is at utmost risk.

US President Donald Trump states Google, Facebook and Amazon to be in an antitrust situation
In a recent interview held on Thursday, USA President Donald Trump stated tech giants like Facebook, Google and Amazon to be in a “very antitrust situation”. However, the President did not comment further on whether he believes if these companies should be broken up, pertaining to the matter.
In an Oval office interview with Bloomberg, Donald Trump said, “I won’t comment on the breaking up, of whether it’s that or Amazon or Facebook,” further adding “As you know, many people think it is a very antitrust situation, the three of them. But I just, I won’t comment on that.”
This is the third day in a row that the US President has repeatedly accused the three companies of being biased against conservatives. He believes that their actions are aimed at belittling Conservative speech. His attack started on Tuesday, when Trump tweeted, “This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!” referring to his belief about Google’s new search being more in favor of the liberal community. Trump was later reported to add that Google, Facebook and Twitter , “are treading on very, very troubled territory.”
The assault continued Wednesday when Trump further tweeted a “#StopTheBias,” hashtag and posted a video, where he accused Google to promote former President Barack Obama’s State of Union addresses on its homepage but failed to do the same for his.
While Facebook and Amazon are yet to respond to these accusations, Google said in a statement that it did in fact promote Trump’s 2018 address but did not post a tout to either his or Obama’s speeches to Congress after they were first elected. Further the company defended its news searches saying that it is designed to give users relevant stories and does not favor any political agenda.
Not just Trump, similar accusations of being biased were also raised by Republican Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah. The conservative politician has asked the U.S. Federal Trade Commission Chairman Joseph Simons to re-examine Google’s conduct in search and digital advertising practices.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro in India could be powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC
After recently launching the Poco F1 smartphone in India, Xiaomi is all set to introduce the Redmi 6-series in India next week. These smartphones include the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and the Redmi 6 Pro. At the same time, Xiaomi also seems to be working on the Redmi Note 6 Pro, a successor to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Chipset details of the Redmi Note 6 Pro have surfaced.
According to a post on Weibo, spotted by MySmartPrice, the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with an octa-core CPU. It will be coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and another variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. There is no word on the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage variant, but considering it was launched in India last year, the same could be expected this year too.
Watch: Poco F1 Armoured Edition First Look
If indeed the Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a Snapdragon 660 SoC, it will be a good upgrade as the Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 636 SoC. The Redmi Note 6 Pro is also expected to come with a notched display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. There is currently no word on when Xiaomi plans to launch the smartphone.
To recap, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India at Rs 14,999 for the variant with 4GB RAM, whereas the 6GB RAM variant sets you back by Rs 16,999. It comes with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
As mentioned above, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC, and available in two storage variants – both having 64GB storage, with 4GB or 6GB RAM options to choose from. In the photography department, the smartphone comes with a dual-camera setup at the back – with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. Up front is a 20-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calling. With 4,000mAh battery to keep things ticking, the smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

Samsung sent samples of foldable displays to Oppo and Xiaomi: Report
Apart from making its own smartphones, Samsung also supplies numerous hardware components (e.g. flash memory chips, display panels) to other companies for their devices. In fact, one of the chaebol’s subsidiaries – Samsung Display – is solely involved in the research, development, and manufacture of display panels for products such as smartphones and TVs.
Samsung has been rumoured to be working on a foldable smartphone for quite some time. Now, a report from ETNews has claimed that the company supplied samples of its foldable displays to two of China’s most-prominent smartphone manufacturers – Oppo and Xiaomi.
It may sound strange that the company is sending foldable displays to competitors even though its own product is not out yet, but apparently, there’s a rationale behind this move. It seems that the company wants to help the ecosystem of foldable smartphones grow and get customers acquainted with the new technology (and the devices it will bring), before unleashing its own smartphone with a foldable screen. If that is indeed the plan, this will also give Samsung time to burnish their own product, so that it stands a much better chance against established competition upon launch.
Watch: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 First Look
Whatever Samsung’s intentions may be, it’ll be interesting to see when we get to see the first foldable smartphones. Samsung recently took the wraps off its new Q900R QLED 8K TV at the ongoing IFA 2018 consumer electronics tradeshow in Berlin. The QLED display on Q900R, according to Samsung, features ‘Real 8K Resolution’, and can reach 4,000 nits of peak brightness. The feature allows the TV to produce four times more pixels than a 4K UHD TV, accounting for a total of more than 33 million pixels.

Adobe adds support for HEIF images and improves Optics tab in Lightroom CC 3.6 update for Android
Adobe has just issued a new update for Lightroom CC users on Android with a number of improvements and new features. According to the changelog of the latest update, Adobe has finally introduced support for HEIC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) in the High-Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) on Android. This format gained mainstream acceptance after Apple introduced it in iOS 11 last year. Earlier the support was only limited to iOS and users could not use the HEIF images on Android that they uploaded on the cloud from iOS.
The company has also added a quick toggle to resume or pause synchronization with the Adobe cloud in the “Cloud status” tab. The new update has also improved the “Optics” tab in the app allowing users to fix chromatic aberrations in the images. The tab now also gives users the option to select from 1,200 lens profiles to fix any distortion in the images. The changelog also pointed out that Adobe has finally removed the maximum limit of exporting 15 images at any given time. The update brings the version number of the app to 3.6 while adding a new guided tutorial on how to apply Watermark to the images.
Watch: PUBG Beryl M762: All you need to know
Moving forward, Adobe has also added a new technology preview in the app known as “Best Photos”. Adobe Lightroom uses Adobe Sensei as part of this preview to automatically select the photos that have “the highest potential, quickly and easily.” For the people who are not aware of what Technology Previews are, these features are usually something that Adobe has been working on behind the scenes but the company wants to test them more before rolling them out for everyone.
The company has been working on improving the features of the app in recent months. This is the second major update in last three months to bring it on par with its desktop counterpart.

Meizu 16X has received a TENAA certification with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC
Meizu revealed its newest smartphones, the Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus last month. Following the launch, Meizu CEO Jack Wong declared that the company would also be introducing a more budget-friendly device that will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. Now we seem to have our first look of the device with it appearing on the Chinese certification website TENAA with a model number M872Q, along with images of the front and back of the device, and its specs.
The assumption that this model number actually denotes the Meizu 16X is based on the fact that the Meizu 16 Plus had appeared with the model number M892Q and Meizu 16 had appeared with the model number M882Q. As for the chipset, it is assumed that this is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 because it is the only current-generation Qualcomm chipset that has a clock speed of 2.2GHz on the processor.
The TENAA certification page reveals that the new Meizu phone is set to come with a 6-inch Full HD+ display that uses AMOLED technology. Besides this it seems like Meizu is sticking to its guns and avoiding notches, and going with bezels like it has done for all its phones up until now.
Besides the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, the Meizu 16X seems to feature 6GB RAM along with 64GB internal storage, and no hints on whether it will feature expandable storage. In the camera department, the Meizu 16X seems to feature a dual-rear camera setup on the back with 20 megapixel + 12 megapixel sensors and a 20 megapixel front camera sensor.

Apple Watch face that celebrates gay pride has been disabled in Russia
Apple introduced a special pride Apple watch face at its WWDC event in June. The special Apple Watch face displays a rainbow flag that inspires to support gay pride and take a stance against LGBTQ discrimination. Not just that, Apple had also introduced a special rainbow patterned Watch strap alongside of it, sales of which helped the company to further support the LGBTQ community. Now, a recent report from the Verge suggests that Apple has disabled the Watch face for its Russian users.
According to the new report, the unavailability of the pride Watch face in Russia, has been spotted by many Reddit users in the last couple of months. However, it was recently brought to attention by a tweet from Guilherme Rambo, which states that the Watch face has been hardcoded not to show up on Apple Watches that are paired to an iPhone being used with a Russian locale.
This doesn’t come as a big surprise as Russia had passed a gay propaganda law in country in 2013, which simply looks down on the LGBTQ community and labels it as being illegal. People who are accused of being gay or show support towards the community are slapped with fines and in some cases even face jail time.
The Apple Watch pride face is hardcoded to not show up if the paired iPhone is using the Russian locale pic.twitter.com/vEP8XquYsP
— Guilherme Rambo (@_inside) August 31, 2018
While Apple seems to have a liberal stance on most issues, by disabling the pride Watch face in Russia it seems to be taking a back seat in these matters. It is also possible that the company could have taken the step to protect the minority group in the country, by preventing something that would draw attention to those users.

Amazon reportedly acquires Tapzo, an all-in-one aggregator app in India
Amazon has reportedly acquired an all-in-one app platform Tapzo in India. According to two people aware of the deal, Amazon has cracked a part-stock and part-cash deal worth $40-45 million with Tapzo, reports ET.
Tapzo, which was founded as Akosha in 2010, is an all-in-one app platform that allows users to access over 35 apps including Amazon, Flipkart, Ola and Uber. The company’s co-founders Ankur Singla and Vishal Pal Chaudhary, afterthe deal, will reportedly join the Amazon Pay team in India and help build up the platform. Amazon did not comment on the acquisition, and neither of the Tapzo co-founders have said anything on the deal so far.
“Our commitment to the vision of a less cash India remains the same. Our goal is to make it easier than ever before for customers to make digital payments by improving the customer experience, affordability and daily routines,” report quoted Amazon spokesperson.

Tapzo raised about Rs 25 crore across two internal rounds of funding in January and June this year from Singapore-based RB Investments and Ru-Net, according to ET. The firm was valued at Rs 600 crore in 2016 when it raised about $5 million from Sequoia Capital.
The company has also been backed by American Express Ventures apart from Sequoia Capital, RB Investments and Ru-Net, among others. It’s been reported that Tapzo was struggling to expand its transaction volumes. Recently, the company’s valuation had dropped by almost 45 percent after the funding earlier this year. After the Amazon Pay acquisition, Tapzo’s investors will reportedly exit with a cash payout.

Google, Harvard to use machine learning to predict earthquake aftershock locations
Scientists from Harvard have teamed up with tech giant Google for using machine learning to predict where earthquake aftershocks may occur, a move that will help minimise impact of the natural disaster on lives and infrastructure in the coming years.
Earthquakes typically occur in sequences — an initial “mainshock” followed by a set of “aftershocks.” While these aftershocks are usually smaller in magnitude, they may significantly hamper recovery efforts.
Although the timing and size of aftershocks has been understood and explained by established empirical laws, forecasting the locations of these events has proven more challenging, Phoebe DeVries, Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard, said in a Google blogpost.
Machine learning-based forecasts may, one day, help deploy emergency services and inform evacuation plans for areas at risk of an aftershock, she added.
“We teamed up with machine learning experts at Google to see if we could apply deep learning to explain where aftershocks might occur… We are looking forward to seeing what machine learning can do in the future to unravel the mysteries behind earthquakes, in an effort to mitigate their harmful effects,” she said.
DeVries outlined that the teams started with a database of information on more than 118 major earthquakes from around the world, including the one in Bhuj in 2001.
A “neural net” was then applied to analyse the relationships between static stress changes caused by the mainshocks and aftershock locations, and the algorithm was able to identify useful patterns.
“The end result was an improved model to forecast aftershock locations and while this system is still imprecise, it’s a motivating step forward,” she said.
DeVries said the process also helped identify physical quantities that may be important in earthquake generation, which opens up new possibilities for finding potential physical theories that may allow for better understanding this natural phenomena.

Original content in India has ramped up faster than anywhere else: Netflix
Streaming service Netflix has ramped up its content in India faster than anywhere else in the world, doubling its catalogue since 2016 when it entered the market and working towards higher growth, says a senior executive of the company.
The goal is to tell “authentic Indian stories” on a world platform, said Simran Sethi, director creative, international originals, Netflix.
Of late, Netflix has diversified its content, including “Sacred Games”, its first Original Series in India, and its latest “Ghoul” as well as films such as “Lust Stories”.
“Since our launch in India, our content has ramped up bigger and faster than anywhere else in the world in the same time period. We have doubled our catalogue. If it seems like there is a lot going on, it is because of this ramp up. India is a very important market for us,” Sethi told PTI in an interview over phone from Mumbai.
The Indian content seems to have exploded but Sethi says they have been working on it for a while. “We have been in India for a couple of years and I have been in this job for a year. It has been in the works for a while. It might seem like that way because there is a lot of excitement but we are definitely anxious for a big ramp up.” Sethi was noncommittal about the second season of “Sacred Games”, based on the book by Vikram Chandra. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, the series about the dark underbelly of Mumbail, stars top actors such as Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan.
“We don’t give out numbers but we were very happy with the response to ‘Sacred Games’ internationally. The reviews have been fantastic from critics and fans. We are very bullish about the response. The excitement and fandom is very encouraging,” Sethi said.
Asked about the second season, Sethi offered a cryptic, “We have not made any announcement yet.” Coincidentally, Netflix’s other major upcoming projects are also rooted in literature — “Selection Day” (Arvind Adiga), “Bard of Blood” (Bilal Siddiqi) and a prequel to “Baahubali”.
“It is by chance that most of them happen to be book adaptations. It is not a strategic choice. ‘Ghoul’ is a completely original idea based on a folklore and then films like ‘Love Per Square Foot’ and ‘Lust Stories’ were original stories. We look for filmmakers and voices that are most exciting and let them tell the stories they want to,” she said.
The platform is exciting for filmmakers too as they can find a global audience in more than 90 countries, she said.
“We are a global platform and we can take Indian content all over the world. Filmmakers share their stories with the audiences who may not have seen them before. My mother does not have to wait for three months to rent a DVD from an Indian store in the US, to watch a film in Hindi and other languages now.” Asked about the competition with Hot Star, Amazon Prime Video and homegrown OTT (over the top) platforms, Sethi said, “We don’t focus on that too much, we focus on the consumer. We try to think first and foremost about our members and giving them top Indian, global and Hollywood content to watch whenever they want to watch, on whatever devise they want to watch. That’s how we are providing value to our consumers.”

Alleged renders of Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro confirm different layouts for rear camera systems
Apart from the flagship P series, Huawei is also known for its top-of-the-line Mate line-up. Having recently launched the Mate 20 Lite in Poland, the Chinese company is now getting ready to unveil the much-swankier Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, later this year.
Now, a fresh set of alleged Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro renders have surfaced online, confirming key design aspects of the two smartphones’ rear camera setups. If the renders are to be believed, the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 Pro will have a unique triple-camera setup at the rear, arranged in the form of a 2×2 matrix, with the LED flash module making up the fourth element of the matrix. Below that would be the circular fingerprint sensor.
Watch: Huawei P20 Pro Review
As far as the Huawei Mate 20 is concerned, the render shows it having three cameras at the back, arranged vertically. While two of the cameras share a common ‘boundary,’ the third is separate. This is the same layout that the P20 Pro has, only flipped. A circular fingerprint sensor lies below the three shooters.
The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro have been rumored for quite a while now. The flagship smartphones are expected to be powered by Huawei’s top-of-the-line Kirin 980 SoC, which the company is expected to announce at the ongoing IFA 2018 consumer electronics show in Berlin, Germany. The chipset will likely be complemented by 6GB of RAM and (at least) 128GB of internal storage. The two smartphones will most certainly run Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box, with Huawei’s brand-new EMUI 9.0 baked on top.

Motorola One, One Power First Impressions: Embracing the notch and Android One program
Motorola has silently launched the Motorola One and One Power smartphones at IFA 2018 in Berlin. These phones are the first to be made in collaboration with Google and feature Android One branding. They also embrace notch and show how Motorola is trying to adapt to modern consumer needs in the ever-changing industry.
Motorola, which once used to be market leader in India, has lost to brands like Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. With Motorola One and One Power, the smartphone maker is trying to make a huge comeback. Here are some initial thoughts on both the smartphones.
Watch: Moto E5 Series First Look
Design and Display
Let’s get this thing straight: critics don’t necessarily like the notch but consumers want it as a priority. With Motorola One and One Power, Lenovo is finally delivering on the promise of notch-based smartphones. The Motorola One and One Power feature a notched display at the front.
The Motorola One features a 6.18-inch HD+ display while the Motorola One Power has a smaller 5.9-inch HD+ display. Both the phones support a resolution of 1520×1080 pixels, which translates to 19:9 aspect ratio. During my brief time with these devices, I could observe benefits that I have experienced on phones like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, where you get to see more of the screen, especially in scenarios like browsing the web, scrolling through Facebook or Instagram feed.
The Motorola One features a metal and glass design while the One Power switches to a polycarbonate back. The use of polycarbonate back helps with packing a large 5,000mAh battery.
Hardware
Motorola One is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, unofficially the chipset endorsed by Xiaomi. The One Power, on the other hand, is using more mainstream Snapdragon 636 CPU.
Both the phones come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Lenovo tells me that there are no plans for a 6GB RAM variant at this moment but it might come at a later stage. The performance would be on par, if not better, with phones like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus. There is also dual camera setup on both the phones.
The Motorola One features a combination of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel dual rear cameras while the One Power has a more powerful 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel setup. At the front, both the Motorola One and One Power have an 8-megapixel camera. In the past, Motorola has not been the best with cameras and this time, it is promising to be better.
Software and Android One
Motorola has always been against bloatware and has offered near stock Android experience. With Motorola One and One Power, the company is embracing Google’s Android One program to offer stock Android experience.
Both the phones are running Android 8.1 Oreo and offer features like Google Lens integrated into the camera. These two devices also support Google Assistant and offer unlimited storage with Google Photos.
Xiaomi and Nokia have already joined the Android One club. With Motorola One and One Power, Lenovo is also getting a ticket to Google Arena. I would say if you want a smartphone in 2018, you should prioritize software over everything else. Motorola is promising Android Pie and Android Q updates and three years of software update.
Final Thoughts
I started my real smartphone journey with Moto X in 2013. After checking out Motorola One and One Power, I think I am interested in giving this company another shot. If Lenovo prices this Motorola One Power under Rs 15,000 then they might win consumers by offering experience over pure hardware.

Apple dominated global smartwatch market in Q2 2018
Apple continued to dominate the smartwatch market with a 41 per cent share as global smartwatch shipments grew 37 per cent Year-on-Year in the second quarter of 2018, a Counterpoint report said on Friday.
US-based wearables major Fitbit grabbed the second spot with 21 per cent market share while Fossil was at the third spot with four per cent share in the second quarter of 2018.
According to Counterpoint’s “Global Smartwatch Tracker”, smartwatch makers are looking to add cellular connectivity for standalone use-cases as 90 per cent of smartwatches shipped today are not cellular-capable.
“Apple is catalysing the trend of ‘smartwatch as a standalone wearable device’ with adoption of cellular connectivity, which is driving the new wave of cellular connected wearables globally, great news for mobile operators,” Satyajit Sinha, Research Analyst, Counterpoint Research, said in a statement.
“Battery-life is a constant concern with smartwatches, given their tiny batteries. However, Apple, Samsung and Huawei are consistently working to optimise the software and the overall design and adding components such as eSIM to make space for bigger batteries.
The adoption of cellular Low Power Wireless Access (LPWA), technology especially LTE-M in smartwatches will also drive core use-cases in a smartwatch while boosting battery life,” Sinha added.
According to the market research firm, the shift to Androidwear OS still has not happened like in Android for smartphones.
“This is partly due to lesser focus, less intuitive user interface (UI) and selective smartwatch OEM partnerships by Google over the last few years for Androidwear OS,” it said.
According to Research Director Neil Shah, despite the initial hype and traction of cellular-based Apple Watch Series 3 in the first two quarters, “Apple iPhone users are actually choosing the Series 1 as a non-cellular option over Series 3 non-cellular model which is surprising to many industry watchers”.
“This also shows that Apple users are choosing Series 3 preferably if they want to add cellular connectivity, else Series 1 remains the most popular model contributing to almost nine out of ten Apple Watch sold in Q2 2018,” Shah noted.

Kaspersky Lab report claims that many would rather be caught naked in public than without access to the internet
Internet connectivity plays an important part in our lives. Its usage has gone far beyond just giving us information over the web to keeping us in touch with friends, order food, or hail a cab just from the comforts of our homes. Now a recent survey conducted by Kaspersky Lab tells us just how important internet connectivity has become to most people.
According to the study, internet connectivity has more or less become an essential to our daily lives, so much so that about 22 percent in the survey accounted it to be as important as getting access to food, water and shelter. Not just that, the need for staying connected also extends to our devices as well. The study concludes that about 23 percent of people would rather choose being caught naked in public other than have their devices on them.
Of course, our reliability on smartphones and other connected devices has also risen a lot in the past, making them one of the most important possessions to most people. Nearly 90 percent respondents in the survey said that they would feel more stressed if their device was lost or stolen, compared to missing a train/airplane, being in a minor car accident or even getting sick. The study clearly shows that people will risk getting embarrassed or even physically harmed over having no internet connectivity.
Understanding its importance, Kaspersky believes that it is also important to find a balance between connectivity and security and it claims to bring that with the help of Kaspersky Security Cloud, and the range of features it has to offer across Windows, Android and iOS. The new software claims to offer peace of mind to users when it comes to their devices, while also ensuring safe and secure connectivity.
One of the key features of Kaspersky Security Cloud is that it can monitor, predict and track errors to a computer hard drive, in order to let users known in advance. In the case of an Android device getting stolen, its anti-theft features also help locate and track the device, while also taking a mugshot of the person. Moreover, it also helps protect user data when connecting the device to an unknown Wi-Fi network. There are plenty of other features included as well.

Anand Mahindra just found out about his company’s tractor in PUBG, but does not know what PUBG is
South Korean game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has taken over the world, especially with its mobile version, which happens to be extremely popular in India. And though it has been around for a while, people have just realized that there is a Mahindra tractor in PUBG after noticing it in a stream by popular PUBG streamer ‘chocoTaco’ on his YouTube channel.
The Mahindra 265 D1 tractor can be seen on the farms in the desert map of PUBG, called Miramar. The red tractor which is just a static installation in the map even has a transport car attached to it which says ‘Horn OK Please’. And now Twitter is abuzz about this fact from PUBG and can’t stop talking about it.
The executive chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra, who has an active presence on Twitter, took notice of this before long and tweeted, “Ok, I admit I’m embarrassed. I try to keep abreast of the latest happenings in the world but what on earth is PUBG? And of course I’m pleased a Mahindra tractor figures in it. What happens to the tractor, by the way?”

Indian fans of the game are pleased to say that at least by the fact that there is a little bit of India to be found on one of the most popular games on the planet right now. And now PUBG has gained an even bigger fan base in India with this little snippet of information.

Our in-house gamer at BGR India Bodhisatwa Ray says he had noticed this fact a long while back, and regrets that he did nothing to bring it to the social spotlight earlier, considering that it’s clearly a big deal. Nonetheless, if you’re playing PUBG, keep a look out for the Mahindra tractor.

US President Donald Trump’s idea to regulate Google ‘unfathomable’
His attacks on Google drew headlines, but President Donald Trump would face an impossible task if his administration tried to regulate the leading internet search engine and its news results.
Legal and media experts say Google and other internet firms enjoy the same constitutional protections on free speech as news outlets, precluding any government interference with the search results that displease the president.
“Each search engine’s editorial judgment is much like many other familiar editorial judgments,” said Eugene Volokh, a University of California-Los Angeles law professor and author of a 2012 white paper on the constitutional First Amendment protection of search engines.
Volokh said in a blog post on Reason.com after Trump’s remarks that algorithms developed by Google and others are “editorial judgments about what users are likely to find interesting and valuable.
And all these exercises of editorial judgment are fully protected by the First Amendment.” Eric Goldman, co-director of the High-Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University, said there is ample legal precedent for Google’s free-speech rights.
“Search engines fully qualify for First Amendment protections for their search results. Numerous cases going back over 15 years have confirmed this,” Goldman said.
“Any effort by Trump to ‘fix’ search engine results will violate the First Amendment. It’s not even a close question.” Trump’s comments however stoked debate on the question when he assailed Google for what he termed “rigged” results that hide news from conservative outlets and promote content from what he called “left-wing” media.
Google countered the remarks by saying that “search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology.” The president’s comments follow criticism from Republican lawmakers including House majority leader Kevin McCarthy who claimed that “conservatives are too often finding their voices silenced” on online platforms.
Trump on Tuesday issued an unspecified warning to tech firms, presumably related to his claims that they suppress conservative views.
He repeated his claim yesterday, saying big tech firms “treat conservatives and Republicans very unfairly,” but stopped short of calling for regulation.
“You know what we want? Not regulation, we want fairness,” he told reporters.
Yesterday, Trump posted on Twitter what was purported to be a series of screen grabs that showed Google’s home page promoted State of the Union addresses by former president Barack Obama but stopped when he took office, using the hashtag #StopTheBias.
There is little evidence to show algorithms by online firms are based on politics, and many conservatives — including Trump himself — have large a social media following.
Analysts say it would be dangerous to try to regulate how search engines work to please a government or political faction.
“Google is a private company with its own algorithms and the government has absolutely no control in how it conducts business,” said Ken Paulson, former USA Today editor who heads the Newseum’s First Amendment Center and is dean of communications at Middle Tennessee State University.
“The broader threat to First Amendment freedoms comes when the most powerful man in the world repeatedly says that you can only trust him, not news organisations or the search engines that deliver their coverage.” But even without constitutional protection, the idea of regulating billions of Google searches would be an impossible task.
“We deliberately don’t regulate every interaction in the economy because we know it’s unfathomable,” said David Balto, a former Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department enforcement lawyer.
Balto maintained that Trump’s suggestion “is an Orwellian concept that might fit well in ‘1984’ but is totally inconsistent with our tenets of democracy.” Other analysts say the Trump comments are merely an attempt to rally his base and raise doubts about news organizations investigating him.
“Authoritarian regimes would love to have that power over search engines,” said Ed Black, president and CEO of the Computer and Communications Industry Association, a trade group that includes Google and Facebook.
“The US government should be an advocate against this type of censorship.”

Xiaomi India migrates local data to India cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure
In August last year, the Indian government had sent a notice to 21 companies including Xiaomi, Vivo, Apple and others over hacking fears. The government expressed fear of smartphone companies “siphoning and compromising data of Indian users.” Companies were asked to move local data to Indian servers, and Xiaomi has now migrated the data to India’s cloud infrastructure.
“At Xiaomi, data privacy and security are of utmost importance to us. We are taking one more step towards user data security and privacy by bringing our cloud services to India for all local data needs. It’s something our teams have been working tirelessly on and I am glad we have been able to turn this around for our India users. With the data stored locally and encrypted end to end, users will be able to enjoy greater access speeds,” Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India.
Watch: Poco F1 Armoured Edition First Look
The data migration covers data of all Indian users across Xiaomi’s e-commerce platform, Mi Cloud storage, Mi Community, Mi TV and MIUI content, which includes marketplace, feed, Mi Video, Mi Messaging, push notifications and advertising. The data is being migrated to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure infrastructure, both of which are regarded as highly secure.
“Xiaomi is committed to India and data protection and using cloud servers in India is another step in that direction for us. We will continue to work on this aspect and ensure a heightened user experience for all our users in India,” Manu Kumar Jain added.
Data of all new users registered after July 1, 2018 is already being stored on local servers, whereas existing user data on mi.com/in will be migrated to India servers in India by mid-September 2018. Xiaomi further mentioned that the existing data of all users will be migrated by the end of 2018.

T-Series is taking on Pewdiepie to be the biggest YouTube channel ever
If you use YouTube, then there is a good chance that you have come across the name Pewdiepie. The channel run by Felix Kjellberg currently has 65 million subscribers, making it the biggest YouTube channel in the world. It is a mantle Pewdiepie has held for the last five years. But now his throne seems to be under imminent threat, and it is coming from none other than India’s T-Series channel.
Yes, T-Series, an Indian music production company popularly known to post Bollywood music videos featuring Indian artists is estimated to take the top spot on YouTube as the most subscribed channel, in the next few months. At the moment, the music company has roughly about 59.7 million subscribers with a total of 46 billion views, which is the highest among YouTube channels.
While it is still trailing by 6 million subscribers behind Pewdiepie, a report presented by Social Blade states that T-Series is growing its channel subscription by 1,41,000 users on a daily basis, compared to Pewdiepie’s 30,000. These growing numbers suggest that the music company could become the most subscribed channel on YouTube in the next few months or early next year.
In the fight to be the most popular YouTube channel, T-Series does of course have a few advantages. One of the biggest is being an actual music production company and not just a single person ranting about the latest memes and games on its channel, which Pewdiepie does. However, its main advantage comes from the being one of the only channels to post high-quality Bollywood videos that cater not only to the 1.3 billion people living in India, but also to Indians living across the globe. All of its music videos can be watched for free on its channel, thereby increasing its appeal.
That said, the YouTube mogul doesn’t plan on going down without a fight. In a recent video put up on his channel, Pewdiepie asked his 9-year old army to fight back. He even funnily called out T-Series for an all-out battle to the death. The YouTuber also talked about getting a more Indian-based audience, while also demanding 9-year-olds around the world to subscribe to his channel, in order to keep his channel at number one for as long as possible. However, it looks like it is just a matter of time before T-Series takes the lead.

Flipkart now lets you pay for purchases via EMI even with debit cards
Of the many payment options that e-commerce portals offer to customers, EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is arguably the most popular. That’s because it allows payment for a product to be made in small chunks spread over an extended amount of time, thus putting less (financial) strain on the buyer. But as convenient as EMIs are, they are only available with credit cards, which are still not widely-used in India. Consequently, a lot of customers eventually end up not buying products they really want to.
It seems Flipkart wants to change that, which is why the e-tailer has introduced the facility to pay through EMIs even with debit cards. According to Flipkart, availing the facility doesn’t require customers to have a minimum balance in their account. There is no documentation or processing fee involved either.
Before getting started, a buyer must first find out whether they are eligible for the ‘Debit Card EMI’ facility or not. To do that, they simply have to text <DCEMI> to 57575, from the same cellular number they have registered with their Flipkart account and (salary) bank account. They’ll then get a text message (see below), letting them know about their eligibility status.
Apart from the SMS option, customers can also check eligibility from Flipkart’s app or website. If they are eligible for availing ‘Debit Card EMI,’ the option will show up under ‘Easy Payment Options’ next to the product’s listing.
Availing EMI through debit cards is easy. After the customer has added a product to their cart and moves to the payment options step, they’ll have to select ‘Debit Card EMI’ (We weren’t able to confirm this on our end). Following this, they must select the EMI tenure (in months) and authorize the transaction via bank’s OTP/PIN or Netbanking facility. Once the transaction is confirmed, the product’s cost would be split into equal instalments split over the tenure selected by the customer.
Watch: Oppo F9 Pro First Look
It seems that currently, this facility is only available to debit card holders of four banks – Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and SBI. It’s worth mentioning that availing ‘Debit Card EMI’ will incur interest from the bank, which will have to borne by the customer. Also, if a customer cancels an order after opting for this payment option, they won’t be able to use it again for 90 days.
