Samsung Galaxy P30 with dual camera setup passes TENAA

An unreleased smartphone by South Korean electronics and smartphone giant Samsung was spotted on TENAA. The device that we are talking about here is likely to be known as the Samsung Galaxy P30. For the people who don’t know TENAA is a Chinese certification website that certifies all the electronic devices for launch in the Chinese market. Certification is an essential step if a company wants to launch the device in several markets including the United States. According to a report, the smartphone is likely to be only launched in the Chinese market and may not make its way to the global market.

A report by GSMArena indicated that the device will come with a 5.99-inch screen with an LCD panel. The report also indicated that the device is likely to be powered by a 3,300mAh battery and will sport a vertically mounted dual camera setup on the top left side corner of the back of the device. The device will also come with a fingerprint scanner towards the middle on the back of the P30 above the ‘Samsung‘ branding. Taking a closer look at the images of the device, it looks like the device will not come with a notch and instead, the company may just stick with its Infinity display design.

Watch: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 First Look

The report noted that reports had previously mistaken the device to come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. However, now that the device comes with a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, it is likely that it will compete with the lower-end devices in the Chinese market.

Samsung has not revealed any details about the upcoming device including the specifications or launch and availability details. Though it is likely that the device may launch in coming days or weeks as TENAA certification is one of the last things that device makers take care of before the official launch.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite with Kirin 659 SoC and stylus support launched: Price, specifications

Chinese technology giant Huawei has silently introduced another mid-range tablet. The new MediaPad M5 lite was silently listed on company’s website and it comes with an aluminum unibody and a quartlet of speakers.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite: Specifications and Price

The MediaPad M5 Lite sports a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The mid-range tablet is powered by a Kirin 659 SoC, which seems definitely outdated for 2018. The tablet is being offered in two memory variants – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. Huawei is particularly touting the quad speaker system tuned by Harman/Kardon as one of the main attraction here.

The speaker also works with Huawei’s Histen 5.0 sound system to replicate a 3D surround sound experience. The tablet comes with a massive 7,500mAh battery and runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The tablet, according to Huawei, will be ideal for long multimedia and gaming sessions. Another additional feature is a stylus called Huawei M-Pen, which supports 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. The stylus will only be available in select markets and it features a gun metal finish.

Huawei is currently the leader in China’s smartphone market and recently managed to dethrone Apple as the second largest smartphone maker during the second quarter of 2018. However, the Chinese smartphone maker does not really have a huge presence in the tablet market, despite having a range of devices in the MediaPad series.

With MediaPad M5 Lite, the company is essentially trying to challenge budget and mid-range tablet from Samsung. The MediaPad M5 Lite will be available in Champagne Gold and Space Grey colors but the pricing has not been confirmed yet.

Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL launch on October 9: Rumored specifications, features, price and more

As we big adieu to September and enter the month of October, we are technically entering the smartphone month. In October, we will see the official launch of Razer Phone 2, LG V40 ThinQ, Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, OnePlus 6T, HMD Global’s Nokia 7.1 among others.

With the V40 ThinQ, LG is going after numbers to introduce a smartphone with five cameras in total. OnePlus, on the other hand, is preparing an incremental update to OnePlus 6 with in-display fingerprint sensor, that is certain to leave a lot of its fans in splits next month. As far as Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are concerned, the sentiment so far has ranged from excitement to disappointment. With the two new iPhones already available for purchase, Google knows exactly what it needs to go up against Apple of this world.

Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL: Launch date

Google has already confirmed that it will launch its next generation flagship smartphone on October 9. The launch event is scheduled to take place in New York but Google is also planning additional events in London, Paris and few other markets as Pixel brand gains consumer attention. This is the third year that Google is launching smartphones that have its own engineering, both in hardware and software. And yes, we do think that a lot has already leaked about the upcoming devices.

Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL: Rumored specifications and design

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, ahead of their launch, have seen leaks ranging from Russian bloggers putting out complete details including camera samples and someone leaving behind a prototype device in the backseat of a Lyft cab. While Google is expected to launch two devices, the larger Pixel 3 XL has been the victim of most leaks and also the most controversial device.

The leaks so far indicate that Google Pixel 3 XL will get a notch while the Pixel 3 won’t have one. In the past, the Pixel and Pixel XL have been nearly identical in terms of design except for their size. This time around, Google seems to be planning major changes for both the products, by including a notch.

The image of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL side by side posted by Evan Blass confirms that Pixel 3 XL have a big and deep notch, unlike any other Android smartphone. The notch is flanked by dual front cameras, which will be another surprise addition this year. The Pixel 3, on the other hand, sticks to a traditional design with thin bezels and a visible forehead and chin.

In terms of features, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are said to feature full glass back design, allowing for wireless charging. The top half of the back is said to feature glossy finish with the lower half getting a matte finish. The leaks also confirm that the fingerprint sensor will be placed on the back of the device while the front will now include dual camera setup. There will also be dual front-facing stereo speaker setup, like last year’s model.

The Pixel 3 XL is also said to get new display that will be much better than the one seen on last year’s model. German news site WinFuture.de claims that Google has roped in Foxconn as partner for building a new display hardware. One of the most surprising decision seems to be the idea to stick with single rear camera setup.

All the leaks hint at Google offering only one camera at the back while its rivals are talking about adding as much as five camera to the rear module. However, looking at the potential of Google’s camera algorithm, the single rear camera could produce pictures that will be better than those produced by dual cameras on most smartphones. With Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Google is reportedly planning to include wired Pixel Buds-style USB Type-C headphones, which will be a welcome change.

Watch: Apple iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max First Look Video

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and will bring second generation Pixel Visual Core for HDR processing on the device. All these leaks, however, need to be taken with a grain of salt, considering their shady origin.

Google Pixel Ultra: Is this a reality

Google is also said to be planning a third smartphone, dubbed Pixel Ultra for its October 9 event. Droid Life reports that Google had three new Pixel phones planned for 2018 and the Pixel Ultra will be high-end smartphone with edge-to-edge display and Google’s challenger to the $1,000 iPhone Xs.

Google has reportedly collected videos from YouTubers which trash the idea of a notch and especially the design of leaked Pixel 3 XL. It is not clear why Google would take footage that are against its own design language. Google’s hardware division is now headed by Rick Osterloh and considering his reputation, the search giant might definitely have a surprise or two planned this year.

Google Pixel Stand: A wireless charger turned into smart display

Alongside Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Google is also expected to launch Pixel Stand as a new accessory. The Pixel Stand is tipped to be a wireless charger with Google Assistant baked into it. The Pixel Stand’s leaked interface suggest it will be capable of turning the connected Pixel smartphone into an Assistant-powered smart display. It will show notifications, music playback and even act as digital photo frame that shows recent images from Google Photos.

OnePlus 6T likely to launch on October 16: Specifications, features, price, and more

OnePlus 6T is one of the most anticipated upcoming flagship smartphones from the China-based smartphone company OnePlus. The launch of the device comes months after the company launched its OnePlus 6 back in May of this year. Considering that the company is launching the device a mere 5 months after the launch of its previous flagship device, you may think what is the point of the launch. Well, you may be right but the company believes in launching smartphones with the latest hardware available at the time. This is especially important for the smartphone industry where the pace of innovation is faster than the annual release cycles of the devices.

The company is planning to launch the device in the market in the month of October with some reports indicating that the global launch is scheduled for October 16, 2018. As previously reported, it is likely that the company will launch the device in the Indian market on October 17, 2018. Considering that the launch of the device is approaching, we thought that it is the right time to a roundup about all the information that we know about the OnePlus 6T.

Watch: OnePlus 6 Red First Look

No headphone jack

The company confirmed that the device will not come with a 3.5-mm audio jack. This was one of the first pieces of information that OnePlus shared about its upcoming device, the OnePlus 6T. The confirmation came right around the time when the company announced the launch of Bullets earphones with a USB Type-C port instead of the usual 3.5mm audio connector.

The company also revealed that removal of the audio jack will allow the company to add newer technology to the device including a larger battery. The announcement also resulted in a considerable amount of outrage on social media where people expressed their disappointment about the company removing the audio jack.

In-display fingerprint scanner

3.5mm audio jack is not the only thing that will be removed from the device as the company confirmed that the device will also not come with a rear fingerprint scanner. Instead, the OnePlus 6T will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The company revealed this information adding that it feels that the in-display fingerprint scanner technology has matured enough for the company to include it in their device while maintaining the top of the line user experience. The feature has since been teased in a TV commercial starring Amitabh Bachchan and tweets on the official OnePlus handle.

Water-drop notch

Reports have also emerged on the internet indicating that the upcoming device will ditch the notch in favor of a water droplet-like notch that we saw in the Oppo F9 Pro.

The smaller notch is the likely progression for the company from the current notch that comes in the OnePlus 6. The company has not officially confirmed it but it will be in line with the upgrades that the T-lineup receives.

3,700mAh battery capacity

Talking about the battery capacity of the device, reports have surfaced on the internet indicating that OnePlus is likely to add a 3,700mAh battery in the OnePlus 6T in place of the 3,300mAh battery that comes with the current OnePlus 6.

This is in line with the expectation by the company that removing a 3.5mm audio jack will give the company more space to add a larger battery.

Possible increase in price

Last but not the least, it is possible that the OnePlus 6T is going to cost more than the OnePlus 6. The reason for the increase in pricing is likely because of the weaker Rs in comparison to the US dollar which is likely to drive the price of smartphone components up in the coming months.

Nokia 7.1 Plus reaches TENAA ahead of October 4 launch, key specifications confirmed

Nokia 7.1 Plus, likely to be called Nokia X7 in China, is expected to launch at HMD Global’s scheduled event on October 4. The smartphone has been part of multiple leaks over the past few weeks and is expected to arrive as the successor to much acclaimed Nokia 7 plus. Now, ahead of its official launch, the smartphone seems to have stopped by at TENAA, China’s certification authority, confirming key specifications and design.

The TENAA listing indicates that Nokia 7.1 Plus will carry model number TA-1131 and has includes images that are in line with recent rumors about the smartphone. The image shows the vertically stacked dual rear camera system similar to the one found on Nokia 7 plus, followed by the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It also shows the display without a notch, which could be a drastic change considering HMD Global had debuted the X-series as smartphones supporting notched display.

Nokia 7.1 Plus: Expected Specifications and Features

The Nokia 7.1 Plus listing spotted on TENAA by Nokiamob.net shows that the smartphone will feature a 6.18-inch display with Full HD+ resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone carrying model number TA-1131 will be offered in two different variants and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. The base model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage while the higher-end model gets 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. Both the variants will support expandable storage up to 400GB via dedicated SD card slot.

As far as camera setup is concerned, there is dual rear cameras with 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor. For selfies, HMD Global is equipping the Nokia 7.1 Plus with a 20-megapixel image sensor, if the leaked TENAA listing is anything to go by. The listing shows that Nokia 7.1 Plus runs Android 8.1 Oreo and should be based on Android One programme.

There is a possibility that the final device will launch with Android 9 Pie out of the box. HMD Global started final roll out of Android 9 Pie for Nokia 7 plus early this week. The listing further reveals that the smartphone will be backed by a 3,400mAh battery and weigh around 185 grams. The smartphone is believed to be launched in blue, red and silver colors, when it goes official next month.

Watch: Nokia 7 Plus First Look

Roland Quandt of WinFuture.de had previously said in a tweet that the smartphone will be called Nokia 7.1 and not Nokia 7.1 Plus. He also added that the base variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage will be offered in blue and steel color options and could be priced at €399 (around Rs 33,600). However, considering the recently launched Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus, one can expect Nokia to be more competitive.

Apple area sales manager shot dead in UP for not stopping his car

Vivek Tiwari, an area manager working with Cupertino-based iPhone maker Apple, has been shot dead by a policeman in Uttar Pradesh. The shooting took place near the Mukadampur Police Station in Lucknow’s Gomtinagar on Friday night. It has been alleged that Tiwari was shot for refusing to stop his car when asked by the police.

The deceased, Vivek Tiwari, was an area sales manager with Apple, the world’s largest technology company. According to media reports, Vivek was returning from work with a woman colleague. When asked to stop by two policemen on a bike, Vivek reportedly refused to comply and instead tried to ram his car on the bike of these policemen. Prashant Chaudhary, one of the two policemen, on the bike shot at Tiwari’s car in order to prevent escape.

The constable stationed at the Gomtinagar Police Station claims that he shot at Tiwari in self-defense. The gunshot forced Tiwari’s car to change direction and jammed into a divider. An injured Tiwari was taken to the Lohia Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The post-mortem report declared the cause of death as being shot.

“He (Vivek Tiwari) had a bullet injury near the ear on the left side, he died during treatment,” said Devendra Singh Negi, director, Lohia Hospital. According to India Today, Negi also confirmed that two police personnel involved in the accident were also treated at the hospital.

Since the incident came to light, constable Chaudhary has claimed that he fired in self-defense. However, authorities have filed a case against the two police personnel under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The death of Vivek Tiwari has sparked outrage in the district. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has spoken to the UP DGP OP Singh about the incident and has said that CBI inquiry will be ordered if needed.

The District Magistrate of Lucknow has ordered magisterial inquiry and a Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe into the incident. Kalpana Tiwari, wife of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari, has demanded impartial probe into the death of her husband.

“I waited for my husband till two in the night. After that, I started calling him continuously on both his mobiles — both of which were functioning but no one picked up. Around 3 am a man called me up and said that your husband and his colleague have suffered minor injuries and are being treated at the Lohia Hospital. When I asked who the caller was, they said they were an employee of the hospital. Why didn’t the police call to inform me about my husband’s accident?” she told news agency ANI.

Watch: Apple iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR First Look

Kalpana has also alleged that the police is trying to cover up the incident. She had demanded the UP CM to talk to her while Tiwari’s brother-in-law has demanded a CBI probe into the death. Vivek Tiwari’s colleague in the car has said that she is not in a condition to say anything and is demanding the culprit to be punished. This incident raises further questions about how UP Police maintains law and order and whether they are entitled to take matters into their own hands.
